This is a fall leaf that I backlit using my BB400 in a Minim@g.

Shot with a Canon A620 on macro mode.

The BB400 puts out a really nice, smooth, white beam and I've used it several times for photoshots.

On the asphalt.
I like it! Very cool effect. I like how it outlines the edges of the leaf, similar to what the sun does to create the "silver lining" in clouds. Nice!

I use my EN-plated McLux for some macro photography; the beam is wide and white, with none of those evil little blue things (artifacts) in it that might otherwise ***** a photograph taken with another LED.

Anything that is bright, white and smooth should work fine.

The only problem of LEDs is that they are bluer than Incans. You have to adjust the white balance to get the colors right. Most digicams allow at least settings for "fluorescent indoor lighting" that works quite well with LEDs. Better yet, using a camera that allows manual white balance settings.

Photoshopping afterwards is also helpful.
