May visit DC

Haven't been to DC since before 9/11/01. What level of security can I expect at the Mall (Smithsonian, Air & Space, etc)? Would like to have at least a 2 1/2 blade and pepper spray pen.

Pretty sure I'll leave the 1911 home.

No knife or pepper spray at the Smithsonian. They've got guards and metal detectors.

If you enjoy the Air and Space Museum don't miss its annex out by Dulles Airport. It's called the Udvar-Hazy (real name) Center. Basically an enormous hanger full of planes (Concorde, Blackbird, Enola Gay, Space Shuttle, and many, many more). Here's a few pics.
