Since we are an all things lighting-related board, there are forums for different
interests regarding:
- LED, Electrolumenescent and Lasers
- General Flashlight and Headlamp Discussion
- General Light Discussion
- Batteries Included

and so on, and so on.

OFF TOPIC stuff consists of the CHIT CHAT forum. Some members have asked fo' clarifications as to what can be posted as OFF TOPIC.
Basically, ANYTHING GOES in CHIT CHAT, if it's not directly applicable to the other forums. After all, if it is really better in another Forum, then it will be gently moved there.
Chit Chat Topics can be serious and profound, and/or, profoundly silly.
Gadgets, gun talk, knife talk, sports, the weird and wonderful, humour, births deaths and marriages, recipes, whatever ......

(For the sake of harmony among a group of 1,000+ people, perhaps discussions of Politics and Religious Beliefs should be muted, or "not especially stressed" ...... Except for the Politics of Lights, of course. )

There are other specialist Discussion Boards available, examples: the SureFire DB, and BladeForums, KnifeForums, etc.
However, me personally I'd want to get opinions on a lot of things, and many kinds of purchases, from other CPF members.
Friendships, cyber and otherwise, have developed through this board, and people want opinions from others they know they can trust.

A look at some recent Topic Headings shows coverage of well - just about anything.
Post away chaps !! Don't even wait for inspiration to strike ......

---------------------------------------------

I'm still working on a posting policy for Chit Chat. I guess because we don't really seem to need one, it's actually quite difficult ...... (OK, I'm slow, but it is Constitutional stuff.)
If anyone has any points or issues to raise regarding policy, please e-mail me, with POLICY and your BOARD name in the subject line.

---------------------------------------------

NOW, the REVOLUTION is HERE !

I'd like to rename CHIT CHAT. My personal, favourite, longly thought over name is:

Lights CAFÉ: Talking Off-Topic, Meaningful and Deep and Anything Else ...

I like the idea of a Café, where people could just call in for a break and talk to each other.
Another alternative was the "Light Bar", but that implies the Demon Drink. Still, the LEO's might like it ......

Any suggestions for other names ? Like Forum - "Seeing Everything Clearly: Off-Topic Ramblings" ?

Sincerely,
Jahn,
lightlover, [ *something ridiculous ? ] Moderator member #260 CPForums

Ps - anyone who agrees with my carefully thought out, inclusive, punful, bright CAFÉ suggestion will get a Totally FREE set of 2 SF123's, while stocks last ......

Can it wait until you *finish* your website though

Oh yeah.....the new Torch site! I`d forgotten all about that!

Seriously, things have been non-stop round here in the past few weeks and I needed a break- so I`d decided to suspend work on it till after the holidays- then I`ll dive back in with renewed vigor and it`ll be great- you`ll see.

But to everyone who`s sick of waiting- Sorry. I`ll try to make it worth it.....

(BTW I was just messing round before- couldn`t resist it!)

I guess I kind of like Chit Chat as a title. It implies no particular restrictions on topics. It feels like the untamed wilderness, the new frontier, the wild west if you will!

OTOH, how about "A bit of light conversation.." if a pun is desired for the name?

mikep, out of your 159 posts, I have gained knowledge, appreciated your excellent sense of humour and yes, even been stilled at the sheer wisdom you have displayed.

In all except the post quoted !!

Still, I suppose I must cheerfully tolerate the opinions of others, (however *wrong* they may be ......

Otherwise, it looks like there is an baffling lack of interest in, Oops, I mean an overwhelming agreement with my proposal.

One small voice shall not distract me from my masterplan !!

I declare the motion in this free vote carried

(Unless this post brings more dissenters out ... )

The SF123's will be despatched to my loyal supporters, Chris M (and darell - I've relented, OK ? ) both of whom have clearly demonstrated their independence of thought and good sense.

Yay me! I never win ANYTHING. When they arrive, I'll rush right out and add them in series to my EV1 batteries.

I feel bad though. I'm in the US, ya know... I'd hate to think what shipping will be.

Let it just be noted that I tried to warn you, when the unsavory (or is it unsavoury?) element comes swooping in, smoking clove cigarettes, beating bongos, and starting 'open-microphone-poetry-slams'.

I'll just be sipping my american drip coffee over in the corner of the cafe.

I was hoping that it would be more of a "beer only" cafe. What do they call those? Bars?

Ooops - was this the kind of unsavory stuff you were talking about?

Well what do you know, the man was true to his word! Two shiny red batteries dropped through my front door this morning
smile.gif
Maybe I`ll put them to good honest scientific use and do a burn test in the E2, compared to the cheap Panasonic things I usually buy. Time will tell....

...but I thought you were going to wait till I`d finished the Torch site? Actrually it was probably a good thing you sent them now otherwise the way things are going, by the time I`d finished that site, they`d have exceeded their shelf life

(I know- must try harder......early Febuary OK as a launch estimate?)

anyways,
Thanks Jahn!

Jahn, what's the verdict on the renaming?
wink.gif

Is it too late for suggestions?
I was thinking "Light Diversions" would be a subtle way of describing everything else we talk about.

A package from across the pond!

In a fit of generosity and good humor, Jahn sent a shiny new pair of SF123's! Thanks!

When are we gonna see the new name here?

Brock, my dear fellow, and member of superior rank and great status. As happy as it would make me to oblige you, you posted on the "01-13-2002"
But, in my first post in this topic, it clearly states:

"Of all the CAFÉ's in all the forums in the world, you had to walk into mine ?"

Well, Mister so-called Go, Go Gadget Flashlight, I'm still waiting for any *troublemakers* to post their very own personal-fearless-possibly-even-worthwhile mayhap clever *opinions*.
Then, once everyone has agreed with me, I will ask our Leader to please proceed.

Look Mike, you are well respected on this board. (Possibly, nowhere else, but here, your status is clear.) Impressionable people might listen to you ......
(Btw, do you want to "test a couple of SF123's" ? )

("Light Diversions" - that's subtle ? Huh, to me it suggests people hanging around a street corner, prob'ly up to no good.) Listen to reason Mike - it WILL be diversionary.

It can be whatever kind of Café you like. From a rockin' Truck-Stop, to a genteel Austrian Sacher-Torte deli, or a romantic 50's Parisian Beatniqué dive. A Singaporean Dim-sum stall, or an Australian beach-barbeque palace. Even a University research lab, y'know: coffee pot in a corner. Or, maybe one of the famous smokey Amsterdam joints.

Whatever you like ......

With a small rainbow flag by the door, to signify what an inclusive mixed bunch we are. And full accessibility for all - you don't even need to have a flashlight to get in !!

Go right ahead, Go, Go, or anyone else - break my heart by removing the CAFÉ from the title.

It's a free vote, after all. Disregard my hurt feelings. Huh, they ain't worth a bean.
(As Mr. Nietzsche said "That which does not kill me makes me stronger." )

It was to be "light" refreshments only. I'll just contemplate my lost CAFÉ Proprietorship. (Maybe I could re-train as an astronaut ? No, too old for that.)

Before I'd even finished choosing whether to go for 12V or 120V. There was to be a lighting scheme, the like of which the world had never seen. Gotta cancel the flowers for the opening ceremony.
(Chris M, remember the salt and pepper pots I chose for the CAFÉ ? Could you please post a picture of one - just so that "they" all know how cruel they are.)

Frowning Very Seriously, Deep In Thought,
