my 3x3w luxeon cycle light question

right ive built up a 3x3w cycle light powered by a 14.4v battery to a switch thru a 1000ma buckpack to the 3 luxeon stars wired in series.
it burns very bright (hurts eyes) for about 15seconds then dims but still very good for offroad riding . im presuming that this is as they got a little hot . but is it still ok to run them a little hot. ive all the heat sync i can fit in the light. it is as i say still very very bright . cheers

Doesn't sound good....heat is a big problem for Lux's.
Especialy if they're getting that hot that fast.

Those Lux's aint gonna live long by the sound of it.

How have you attached them and what are they mounted on for heat sinking.
Any way you can post pictures.....even pictures from a mobile phone would be better than nothing.

they are on series by epoxy to a aluminium disc then got two heat syncs fastend to that. it is bright for a bit like i say but then it runs sound just a bit dimmer

Perhaps the buckpack is overheating. Or you could check the voltage into the buckpack when it dims. Perhaps the voltage has dropped enough that it can't maintain the desired current any more.
