Cree + haven't been on here much lately

OK, so I log on, just to find a lot of Cree stuff everywhere. A quick search, and no answer to the question marks dancing around above my head.
Is this a new LED, or did someone make the old LED better?????
A quick rundown please.

A FAQ, from those that know, would be an effective way of reducing duplicate post and searches, which only slows down the message board.

Cree XR is a completely new LED. nothing like the Cree used in CR2 ion

After I looked at the animated gif beam shots on this post I decided I must have one. http://candlepowerforums.com/vb/showpost.php?p=1663455&postcount=102 McGizmo has proven it can be done, and that it is worth doing. I hope Surefire, Fenix, or Electro Lumens make one as well.

Maybe someone might open a new page on the CPF Wiki and summarize things. I see a lot happening with Cree but I'm not tracking it closely, so I'm not the one to try it.

I thought that this thread is quite informative:
Production Cree tested
Basically: Twice the light or double the runtime compared with Lumiled LEDs.
As I can remember, they claim to be something around 80 lm/W.
