Here is a thread on another forum I started on this topic that got going pretty good.
There are pictures, links to bigger pictures and a couple of other links.
I posted it in the security manager part of that forum.
Figured that they would know the pros and cons of that.
It is already a long read now.

Enjoy. :)

Here is a summary of what's posted there;

Here is the entrance I took into the lot.

Now coming into the parking lot.

In the parking lot.

Further into the lot.

Making a left turn into another area of the lot.

Proceeding to the area where my truck was towed.

Here is a picture of where it was parked.

Here is another angle.

Turned around and coming back out.

There it is!! a sign.

A close up of that sign.

Is this the visitors' parking?

It could be in the daytime if everyone had eagles' eyes, or at night with owls' eyes.

The truck that was towed.

Was that damage there before, or after the towing incident?

Dents on top of the little truck.

More dents on the hood.

None of the damage was documented when the truck was taken away.
Who is responsible?

Rental cars;
Who is responsible for new damage, or damage not documented on the rental car before it leaves the lot?

You guys see where I'm going with this?

Of course, your local laws may a little to a lot.

The Towing paperwork.

Chapters 684 and 685 State Laws.
Scroll down to see them. ;)

I started clicking on links to pics, but they were too wide for my monitor.

The post would be more accessable with the pics resized and shown in the post.

Anyway, you got screwed.

That's predatory towing.

If the residents of the lot have a problem with non-residents using their spaces, they should be more clearly marked.

Does everyone who lives there have a guest who has been towed? Makes you an unpopular friend to visit, if so.

from the images i see it does have a red strip on the pavment and say NO PARKING

i know it sucks but what can you do

The Towing paperwork.

The red line that says "no parking" is the fire lane marker.

These images are mostly 1280x920 in size.
This was the best way to make everything as clear as possible in them.
This is why they were posted mostly as links instead of photos.

Sorry about that. ;)

Anyways, No warning sticker, or anything.
Just :poof: truck was missing next morning.

When I worked security, I always issued a warning sticker a couple of times 1st, and only to vehicles in parking spaces that were clearly marked.
I was even told not to have any vehicles towed by some property managers due to liability concerns of some kind. :eek:oo:

According to the oil stains in that space it looks like that space is quite the money maker for the tow truck company. I bet they check it often. The entire space should be painted in. IMO.

Sorry to hear, tough lesson learned. :(

Have heard of incidents like this and while many private properties -should- have clear defined areas, enough don't. Obviously they get a deal going with the local tow company for such.

Bring this up to the property management company about their unclear markers. For creating a stink, contact the local chamber of commerce or attorney to see what is available. While it may not help you...it will help others later.

In my opinion the signage is not satisfactory. You shouldn't have been towed. We have strict rules at our work and all non staff parking is clearly marked same as the staff parking.

Get yourself an angry pitbull for the back of the truck! :)

If you park in the wrong place you expect to pay the price. But!!.....

Issue a claim to the towing truck for damage to the truck. Its just your word against their's. In this day and age if they didn't take a digital photo before starting to tow I'd guess they're daft/negligent. They must have come across this situation before. If not, why not? What are they hiding?

If you have any pictures of the truck intact days before you should collect the copies and get any witnesses lined up.

The sign doesn't say that the tow company denies any subsequent loss/damage to your property during towing.

You got caught out but parking in the wrong place shouldn't give another person carte blanche to damage your truck.

Also if you can get a video of their towing technique in action??????? Showing how the dents might be caused! A lazy tower will do things the same every time. Hoist on the roof. Swinging truck hits the ..... etc etc

Cheers

Ive heard of towing companies posting lookouts in places like that. they call it in when they see a car park there. Sometimes they get 7 or 9 tows a day that adds up to thousands in revenue.
