Hi folks,
We all know Scorpion is a great flashlight with great throw, focusable beam, rubber grip and clickie switch.
Many of us run a Strion bulb in Scorpion flashlight using 17670 li-ion which is great combination, pretty easy to mod and bright for it's size. Best of all, free lumen and low cost bulb.
Here is slightly fatter body to accomodate a large capacity and strong 18650 battery. (Pila will not fit)
Strion bulb not only will run longer with 18650 but will glow brighter and whiter. Guaranteed.
This is because of less voltage drop under same load compare to 17670
Run time will be about 75 minutes per charge vs. 55 using 17670
Physical size is not noticeable and can't tell by looking.
All you need is battery barrel (body) then transfer switch and boot from old body. I also have genuine new switch and boot if you prefere to replace as well.
You can also get a complete new flashlight including 18650 barrel, switch, rubber boot, head assembly, bulb socket and Strion bulb.
2x18650 and 3x18500 versions are here.
Price:
Complete new flashlight $50 TWO MORE AVAILABLE
Turn key flashlight (battery included) $60 NO MORE LEFT
Battery barrel $18 NO MORE LEFT
Head assembly $15 NO MORE LEFT
Switch without spring $4 AVAILABLE
Rubber boot $4 NO MORE LEFT

FM - As it happens my first "real" light was the Scorpion. It is rarely used because it eats through 123s, but otherwise a very nice little light. Not to mention my concerns about the primary 123 venting issues given that the light is not regulated. This little add on might just be the ticket. Question can I still use the Scorpion bulb (I have three) with the 18650? If so, I will PP in an hour or so for:

1x battery tube @ $18.00
1x switch @ $4.00
1x rubber boot @ $4.00
3x Strion bulbs @ $6.00 ea. for $18.00
Shipping @ $3.00
Total $47.00

Thanks. Kirk

Bill - good snag on that Scorpion. Nice price too. I have always liked this light, but rarely used it. With FM's "kit" I can see my Scorpion getting much more use. Kirk

Bill - another nice thing about the Scorpion is that SL sells the replacement heads for cheap. I think that BrightGuy has them in stock. They also have extra ceramic bulb holders for the light. You will notice a slight weight difference between the SL and that 1.5D :)

You may run the CA1499 in this setup with two of my upcoming new protected R123s.

There isn't any way to use the Carley 1499 in this is there?

Sure, you can. I'm running mine with 2 x R123 and It's much brighter. However, head must be unscrewed more than I like to get that sweet spot, but the trade off with what CA1499 delivered keeps me happy. :)

Surefire E-series heads / KL1s will screw onto Scorpian bodies, correct? If so, this would make a very cool KL1 host also.

FYI... The KL1 will fit onto a Scorpion body and it will work, but it will not screw down completely.

Here's a pic I took for someone a while back.

I was at one of my local shops today and spotted some SL Scorpions (new in package with batteries) for $28.95. There were six. Now there are five. I picked up a second. Not a bad price, and maybe even better than the on-line guys. If anyone is interested let me know, and I can hook you up with the owner. I might even be talked into picking them up for you. Then add FM's mod here and have a terrific light without a lot of $$ invested. Kirk
