If by "cheap", you mean a cheap piece of crap, then yes, it's a really, really cheap Surefire.

How about a Minimag LED? They're under $20 at The Home Depot.

Need a low-cost G2 variant?

Brinkmann Maxfire LX at Target for $17.
Includes Sanyo CR123a batteries and a nice belt case.

Those 'Police' branded lights vary in quality. They come from many sources, each can have the same 'logo'. YMMV.

I recieved one with a charger kit from xxxxx store. Tailcap wouldn't stay on and the beam was nothing but a scattering of light. The order went back.
If I saw one laying on the ground I would kick it in the storm drain.
I second the Minimag LED.

Good luck,
Tod

I must have been lucky....

I got one from lighthound for a total of $12 delivered to the UK. To be honest I only bought it out of curiosity as I'm lucky enough to have several 'high end' lights already.

The build quality seems okay (Its still no surefire though) and its reasonably bright. Its got o rings and the threads are lubricated. The momentary pressure switch works well and the tailcap can be locked out.

The beam quality was pretty poor, about Mag quality:rolleyes: but a little gentle sanding of the bulb has sorted this out.

Its not the best light I have ever used but its a long way from the worst too.

It lives with the small set of tools I keep in the car. I accept it for what it is.

A cheap light that performs reasonably well.

For the budget, I'd second the Brinkman Maxfire LX. It's brighter than the G2 and has a clickie tailcap. Might not last quite as long as the G2, but it'll still outlast a non-flashaholic user.

I bought one of these, as a spare for the car, and they feel very cheap, the threads aren't smooth, the thumb button needs a heavy press to light up...... I got the multi-LED version, so I don't know if the other version has lamps compatible with SF, but I doubt it. Cheap, produces light, but not as nice to use as Surefire.

Get registered for this https://www.candlepowerforums.com/threads/140139 which is the Christmas light giveaway, run by KSBman. I'm donating a black G2 this year, so if you get chosen to pick, then you get a choice of what's left (what's left depends on your position on the list).

1-- Go to Target.
2-- Buy a Brinkmann Maxfire LX. Same performance as a Surefire G2. Similar construction. Price = $17

3-- Walk out happy.

crashtestway, I don't know about a "cheap Surefire" (although with the complaints on this board, I'm not sure that's such a hot standard) but I have a few of these Chinese lights with the wavy "police" banner printed on the side of the head and am relatively pleased with all of them. I'll comment on each:

http://www.qualitychinagoods.com/xenon-gentle-police-rugged-recommended-p-261.html

This light is a 2 x CR123 incandescent flashlight with a xenon bulb. It has a fairly solid feel to it and an 'OK' pattern. Simple and straightforward. You can't go wrong for less than $10.

This light is also referred to on this site as the "Malta police light" as a member here procured a lot of them for the island of Malta police force several months ago. They have 11 good quality 5mm LEDs. Search this site for the word "Malta" to find an extensive thread about them. Very nice lights for the price. Reasonably bright and well built.

This last light is probably the least impressive of the three. It's an older bin Luxeon, I think. Fairly blue tint and there's sometimes a one second delay before the light comes on. Still, a pretty good light considering the price tag.

Unless you have been spoiled by 'elite' flashlights, you'll probably be very happy with any of the above if their configuration(s) appeal to you.

Couldn't agree anymore! Awesome light for the money the only thign is getting the 123's to power it..but if its only an emergency light for her car it should be a problem...Since the batteries has a good long shelf life and from what I read they onyl drain about 1% a year in power from sitting unused...

I didn't see the Brinkman at Target probably depends on which one you go to. I have seen it at Gander Mountain though.
