I'm looking for a lightweight polymer LED flashlight for backcountry use - mountaineering and snowboarding. I'm thinking that the ideal would be something along the lines of the Surefire G2 but with a two stage LED so that I could have very high output when needed but a low output setting for long battery life. Any suggestions/recommendations? I'm new around here and open to any and all advice.

I'd highly recommend this flashlight:

It's a 2-watt LED that has 2-output settings (one high and one low) and uses common batteries; hence the name "4AA." And the beam is adjustable, too! This light is good for medium range applications.

I feel this is the most underrated flashlight out there.

Maybe the Night-Ops Gladius? (oops, I thought it was polymer because of the coating) Also a little pricey..

If you're thinking along those lines (Gladius), I would recommend the Striker VG, also dimmable and with a strobe, half the price and twice as bright as the Gladius.
Is there any special reason you want a polymer light? LightUups suggestion is excellent, probably the best and closest you can get with your stated requirements.
If you drop the twostage requirement, you could also check out Streamlights Propolymer Luxeon (4aa or 3c), excellent lights.
