Using Cree LED with Luxeon reflectors, how much do I need to move up (or down) in order to be in focus? Those already tried and figured out, please share your knowledge with the rest of us, mechanically less inclined.

Thanks.

I would like to know that too, but I think it depends on each reflector that is used.

Generally using luxeon-intended reflectors, it seems a case of shimming off the bottom of the reflector (next to the led) and moving the cree up.

The amount though depends whether its a McR19, McR20, McR27, McR27L,
McR38 or McR45 (in the McGizmo range), because the longer type reflectors
lend much better to the natural focus of the Cree than the shallower ones

ie. McR19, McR27L, McR38, McR45 don't need as much modification.

I just swaped the lux 3 in my fifthunit "kenbar" 8 watt to the xre p3 and I had to shave off about 2 mm from the reflector and move it closer to the led to get it in the focal range. This light is unbelieveably bright. Fairly tight spot and tons of spill. Then I put in two cr123 throwaways and it was about 2 times brighter.WOW!
