Expensiv favorite lights are:

Megaray, Maxa Beam, Dynaluxx, Xenonics Nighthunter and any more ...

Some do have a extrem spot, what do you want to do with these lamps ?
They have low lumen, (only 20 Lumen/ Watt) so you dont have any floodlight.
They have expensive bulbs.
Bulbs with only hundrets not thousand of hours live.
Often after 45 some 90 minutes the accumulators are empty.
To expensive to playing arround with.
And what are you paying for repair if you get a problem ?
No standart parts at all inside.

So what is the alternative ?

Standart parts and relative cheap, with a nice spot and acceptable flood, > 5300 Lumen briiiiiight, long live >3000 hours and so on.
We start with any cheap 20-40$ lamp housing
Ballast and igniter from Xenlight or Auerswald, dimmable from 24W up to 50W maximum 200$ or less.
Bulb, the best on ! thousands of hours lamplive, cheap, ~ 5400 lumen, more bright as the sun.
From Philips "Made in Germany" the DL50 80$
Akkumulator, Lithium Ion, no Lipos, no NiMH,no anything else.
Not to expensiv but light weight at smallest measurements ~ 180$

And this is the minimum and at the same time the maximum what you need.

Also at all round about 500$

Its also possible with a heavy and fast empty lead acid akkumulator, and bulb, igniter and ballast from automotive. Also not dimmable, only 35W and it starts with 20 amperes (not 4-5 only) works on 12V so it needs much higher ampere then mine. I am using near 30V and low amps. This its a absolute low budget compromiss, working (for 100-150$ with parts from junkyard) but nothing at all is optimal. Its the technic then from 1996 not from 2006.

If somebody is interestet for diy parts or there are some questions, please send me a e-mail.
I was building diy a lot of lamps the last jears.

Its also possible i create one for you.

Sorry for my bad english but i am still learning.

Please ask me for pictures from the lamps and burning at night.
OK i got it, now the pictures.

And b.t.w. i will give you a little bit information about the bulbs to.

These are the bulbs.
The fat Philips DL50 with 50W on the left and the D2S 35W on the right.

From left to right:
Absolute dead, dont use longer, long used, new with the yellow dot inside.

Same as above
If you are using the D2S overpowerd at 50W after 200 hours the bulb looks like the second from right.
The lightoutput is down (like a 25W bulb) and the heath is high.

DIY kit/ set, bulb, igniter, ballast 24-50W dimmable, switchable, perfect.

The lamps i am modding with the set above.

Very tiny but 1 hour running. With separate LED for lowlight conditions.

The "Big Bertha" or Berta [google] with 6 pound only isnt big, but big in the lightness a real B B .

Same lamp as above.

Picture on 35W only from a frend with the grey lamp on the right (lamps picture above)

All the pictures following are made with HP945 on 37mm.
Also near the same as you ar standing there in realtime.
Zooms are made by zoom on the computer only.

They are all made with my Big Berta.

See the house and powerconductor/ conductor cable in the back.

The house and conductor cable as zoom now

Half mile daylight.

Half mile daylight, BB sitting on the street.

Zoom from picture above

Houses quater mile away.

Houses quater mile away as zoom now.

Powerstation far away, so how little is the housing area.

Tree 1000 feet away

Tree more then 1000 feet

And the zoom.

Here i was swinging the lamp over the agriculture field.

Skybeamer

Skybeamer there was been a little bit fog.

Spot in the forest, a bit to much spot maybe.

Now the bike light is finish.
The Bike is a Villiger Toronto trekking bike with Rohloff 500/14 Speedhub as gear.

I use a Hella Micro Xenon Housing.
Inside the Philips DL50 bulb again with dhe dimmablle ballast 24-50W.

The System is more bright then any car on 24W only.
It runs at 24W for 4 hours at 50W 2 hours.
Weight is only ~ 3 pound.

Picture og the lamp mounted on bike.

 Those are some impressive shots. You may be a newbie on CPF but you're clearly an experienced modder. I'm very interested to see what you come up with next.

decamped
I modified a variant of the red spotlight earlier this year. As you can see, my components are a bit ... klugier than the OP's and the finished product still has a "project" look to it, but that's fine.

Good to see that someone took the time to mess with the focus point on this spotlight - I just snugged mine up to the reflector as best I could and called it a finished job since I didn't need another lightsaber.

I wonder how this one compares to BB.

Dear Colin,
I dont now who is BB.
But if you see this picture anywhere its my lamp and my picture.

The lamp housing is chinese so anybody can use this housing and insert HID.

___________________________________________________________________

If anybody like to have parts to do the same please feel free to ask me.
Its also possibe i give one of my lamps away.

The 50W ballast and igniter i can give away yes.
200$ as set.
The DL50 90$ each.
Or some more sets and or bulbs for cheaper.
Shipping depends from 5$ to 50$ up to 5Kg and inclusive insurance.

The overdriven D2S 35W makes more heath also less light then the DL50 50W type.
Reverse the DL50 makes more blue light when underdriven.

Regards

Mike

Oh, i forgot !

The "Doubble Bertha" is finish also.

Here the pictures:

Left 50W "BIG BERTHA" on the right 2x 50W the "DOUBLE BERTHA"

Both are shining in the sky, you can see the twoo beams on "Double Berta"

Different angles, different spots, different light output.

45° angle in to the air. See the diffference.

Lower angle, you are looking more along the beam.

From 50m away. Now "BB" (50W) on the right and "DB" (100W) on the left.

Frontal, you can see the red press button for the aditional LEDs.
And the Lens cap from the 50mW green laser.

LEDs are on.

See the 2 fat boy DL50 bulbs from Philips.

The rear with the switch for the second bulb.

She ist running at 24W, 50W, 24+24W, 50+50W

And she is running for hours and with absolute increddible light output.

~ 11.000 Lumen

I dont no, millions or billions or trillions of candles ?

Do anybody have more ?

Greetings

Mike

A new projekt.

Wich one could be the new projekt ?

This is the lamp housing with reflectors.

Here you can see the lamphousing with 4 igniters in the rear, the quattro reflector and the quattro ballast.

Her you see the lamp burning.
You can see, the right upper bulb is not adjustet in the middle of the reflector becorse the dot is not round.

She will have ~ 22.000 Lumen.

And yes, when i put wheels under she starts slowly to roll backwards.

And for shure you can see the light from the moon, test it, send me a mail !

I have no idea, searching a name for her. Any idea ?

Greets

Yep !!! If you are talking candlepowers.. I do have much more !!... If you have a luxmeter, please do a measurement at 1000 meter distance from your torch..

You'll never come close to the +50 lux that Maxablaster generates at that distance !!!

However, with 11,000 lumens yours shure puts out a lot of light !!

Ra.
