Which 5 lights can you not live without.

If you are like me, you have purchased many lights after joining this forum.
Some are Great lights and some are not, wev'e all done it.

Now....If you could only keep 5 useful ones, which would they be?
What are they used for?

Some lights you paid too much for and they sit in a case to be admired, those should NOT be included. Be truthful about your most usefull lights.

I think this may be of use to newer folks about how we look at our lights.

Thanks for all your input.

EDIT:

Thought I would post results in easier to comprehend format. (will update periodically).

Newest Edit -----

If you do not see your light in this list, it is because the list has reached its limit, I cannot add anymore lights and still have the list displayed properly....

You can certainly see the most relevent anyway.....

There are some suprises here....

First, there are WAY more different lights than expected.

Most of them are pocket lights, I expected more incan hand helds.

It looks like the Led's have it.

This is just the kind of thing I was looking for, some idea of what people REALLY use.

Some even EDC their HID.

I will keep this list updated every so often.

Thank you for your input.

EDIT:

We Now have 4 clear leaders.....Those should be considered as the lights to buy.

There are a lot of lights in this partial list, and there are many more lights that people like but don't use each day, and some are just cool and collectable.

This is is just an indicator of what people like and use, but I am sure it will be helpful to new (and experienced) users.

Stay Tuned..............

Re: Which 5 lights can you not live without.

For me:

FFlll-my most used now, and always with me.

HDS U60-Second most used and carried. Always with me on extended outings.

ARC AAA-P Wear one around my neck. Great light when I've got my jammies on and need light (no pockets)

Surefire 6P with SRTH head. Small two cell (RCR123) with great throw.

Surefire A2-Good incandescent with low level. Good all around light.

Re: Which 5 lights can you not live without.

A2 for multi-purpose, and regulated incan.
L2 for great flood, long runtime and high output options in one light.
E1L for EDC and spot beam, can interchange w/ E2e
E2e backup incan, can mix-n-match w/ E1L
TL-3 My throw monster, w/ a carly bulb and 2x 17500 AW cells.

These five lights have pretty much met all my needs so far. I would, however, like to get my hands on an HDS EDC pretty soon.

Re: Which 5 lights can you not live without.

Hmmmm 5 lights, since you did not mention flashlights I will answer two ways, one with only flashlights and one with all battery powered lights.

Flashlights:

1. Inova X1 - my daily pocket carry light
2. Inova X5 - secondary carry light - bright close range flood beam good battery runtime
3. Inova X03 - secondary carry light - Tighter long range light
4. RR 2 AAA - wifes every day carry light
5. SMJLED AA Minimag - All purpose long battery life daily chore light

All Lights:

1. Sportsmans Guide 20 LED lantern - Great for emergency needs
2. Inova X5 - I Love my X1 EDC but would choose this one for edc. Canbe carried in the pocket if I could only have one of them, has decent battery runtime.
3. RR 2 AAA my wifes EDC light
4. Brinkman 3 LED Headlamp - A headlamp is too handy in a power outage
5. Inova X03 - Long throw bright and decent battery life

Re: Which 5 lights can you not live without.

1) HDS EDC U60 -most used and useful
2) HD 45 5 watt -great when more light is needed but still nice and pocketable, nice flood for walking (at night :D)
3) AE Powerlight PL-24 when I need my ultimate illumination, getting to see what that is in the dark off in distance :D
4)
5)
...thats about it anything else gets rarely used, the flexibility of 1) and 2) cover most all of my needs,

Ian

Re: Which 5 lights can you not live without.

I meant to put HD45 5w in there since it is so versitle in battery options and also great on low for most tasks, but between it and the PD the PD won since the PD can be put in the pocket and has a momentary mode. You won't catch my bag withou the hD45 in it though...

dta116,

What about your five? :grin2:

Mine are the Orb Raw, McLux PDIII, SF U2, LionCub and although I'm tempted to cop out and say that several are tied at number five...Ti-Chameleon.

Re: Which 5 lights can you not live without.

I suppose I would be neglectful if I didn't post my own 5.......

Incan - Surefire C3 w/extender,clickie, p91, 2x17670 - wins for shear light and utility.
LED - Surefire L4 (rechargable) - wins for best all around and portability.
EDC - Arc AAA P - my pocket light.
Dive Light - UK 4AA eLed - Totally waterproof (for when the Desert floods)
Throw Light - Mag85 - I am building it now for when I need serious light.

I own a Fire~Fly III but it is not as usful as the others. (I did say only 5)
I just love these lights, They are all great lights and I am proud of them all.

Re: Which 5 lights can you not live without.

It's actually only 4 lights for me. If I was limited to those I now own (nothing fancy, no HDSs, etc.), it would be:

Dorcy 1AAA (old model) with upgraded LED: small EDC as bright as new Arc AAA, less run time, cost $7 including new LED

Fenix Civictor: general EDC (or L1P/T, but I prefer twisty for reliability)

Elektrolumens XM3: go to GP light, L2T would be even better but I don't have one

Dorcy 3D 1W LED: a "big" light: throw and run time. $6 at Target closeout - wish I'd found more. Streamlight Propoly lux 4AA would also do for this.

If I had to name a 5th light, it would be a small light with good run time for emergencies: old model CMG Infinity Ultra in white LED or old model CMG Infinity non-ultra in green LED. If I replaced the Civictor with a L1T, then the L1T low mode would probably take care of basic long run time requirements.

Re: Which 5 lights can you not live without.

1. SF E2L - the perfect pocket EDC light; does it all; 3 hr. flat runtime.

2. SF L5 - a great light for safer night walks; beautifully balanced spill and throw.

3. Pelican M6 incan - nice throw; great for use in fog, haze, humid air, or excessive ambient/competing light.

4. Peak Matterhorn 3 LED (Hi-P) - perfect EDC (neck); good in/around house.

5. Mag 'Charger - when ya really need to Reach Out and Touch/Slow-down/Scare The Beejeezus Outta Someone/Some Critter, like: (a) car-thiefs sniffin' around your wheels parked in the driveway, (b) coyotes stalking your cat/dog, (c) slowing/directing passing cars at an auto accident scene until the cops arrive, (d) helping obnoxious/umm, just misunderstood teeners/bangers drivin' around the neighborhood ("sharing" their max-volume rap music with all who do NOT wanta hear their discordant noise pollution) to REALLY See The Light.

Just Missed The Cut:

-- Infinity Ultra-G
-- Pelican 2390 3-Watt LED
-- Princeton Tec Attitude
-- Inova XO3
-- SF C3 (w/shock-isolated bezel... for shooting approaching multiple Miscreants with evil intent... after you dial 9-1-1 but the cops or the Tooth Fairy don't instantly materialize to save you-and-yours, thus mandating that you must *cough* Take The Law Into Your Own Hands Like Some Violence-Prone Neanderthal Vigilante... For The Common Good/For The Children, blah-blah, etc. *cough*).
