Hi folks, after several months study and experiment, I found WA1164 is very good match with 8AA when overdriven to 9.6 volt.
Flashlight is genuine 3D M*g, shortened to slightly shorter than 2D, quad bored inside to accept any capacity or brand AA cells in special battery holder, outside body barrel is crossed machined for nice look and sure grip, head is reshaped to conical form and very fine finned for best heat dissipation. Completly stripped, highly polished and nickel plated .
Battery holder is desighed for serial connection of 8AA (9.6 volt) in premium quality and very low resistance with charging jack. No need to remove tail cap for recharging. Simply plug included male jack for recharging batteries.
I highly recommend to use this charger.
It is also possible to overdrive an WA1274 to 8 volt with regulator for longer run time.

Hero? Naw...I'm just a regular guy, who wants to make sure Fivemega retires in comfort.

The real hotwire purchasing firepower goes to my friends Nebula and Karlthev. They have lights, the likes of which we can only dream about - such as the Fivemega "Elephant".

Please let me be just a tad more clear here---is there a need for a hotwire driver such as an AW or, is this ready to go? Also, I just got two 2" deep reflectors with bezels. Will these fit on tis light?

Yes, I found that the WA1164 bulb gives at 9.6 v 15xx bulb lumens with a bulb life of 8.9 hours. Very nice!!

Sorry for uncomplete and unclear description.
Obviously, using 8AA will require regulator for WA1274
There is no need to use regulator when power up an WA1164 with 8 RESTED NiMHs
This bulb may draw close to 4 Amps which will cause some voltage drop and enough to save the bulb.
However, resistance of stock M*g switch may vary from flashlight to another flashlight. If you experience not enough brightness and yellow beam, you may upgrade your flashlight ONE STEP AT THE TIME to reduce resistance until the right point. As you all know, there are several way to reduce resistance such as progold, center coil spring, negative sliding contact, tail cap spring and...
To explain it easy way (not scientificly), when rerated bulb life is about 10 hours at specific voltage AT BULB TERMINALS, this is maximum overdrive without regulation.

Looking again, the 1164 is rated at spec for 6v. Does the 8aa setup require a hotdriver like AWR's? Seems that it is very likely that you will flash bulbs with batteries not rested for a substantial amount of time... Please let us know fivemega as I too am interested in one of these lights and waiting to hear your input.
