I know three people in the towers when the planes hit. Two made it, one, Ed Beyea, didn't. Ed had been confined to a wheelchair since high school (clowning around at a party, jumping off the roof into a pool), but never ceased to amaze me with his fantastic sense of humor.
The other two were fortunate enough to have gotten out just as the planes hit. I've only had the chance to speak to one of them about the her experience and, like all I've heard, it's not pretty.
As unpleasant as these stories are, it's likely therapeutic for them to be told.
Remember the lost, comfort the survivors, and rebuild.
