For right about $25 you could get them an Ultrafire WF602D (clone of Inova P1) from Ebay they will be amazed at the size and output of your gift and I wouldbet they will want more ;) .

Another good bet is the Inova X1, decent brightness, and extremely good runtime, a perfect starter place for a budding light fanatic.

MagLED Minimag 2 or 3 AA is another great purchase.

MiniMag 3AA LED ~$19 from Home Depot until Wed. or around $25 at various other stores. Common light that the mainstream consumer is familiar with.

I have a secret santa next week to, but wondering how happy an average student would be for a cheap flashlight? I would be thrilled! But I'm also considered a wee bit weird when it comes to bright and shiny things among my friends. Should I buy a flashlight or just get them a sixpack of beer? Our limit is round 8dollars.

Civictor V1 will cost you around $26 at fenix-store with your CPF discount.

Runs on a single AA so a non-flashaholic will have no trouble finding cells when their first one runs out.

Sweet little light IMO.

For $8, how about a Nite-Ize PR LED for the old Mag they probably already have?

For $25, I'd suggest the ProPoly.

Inova X1. Now that they are reflectored they are actually useful, and waterproof/crushproof. Also, they run on a common cell, and are just very sexy and well machined.

Non LED light I recommend Princeton Tec 40 or Princeton Tec Blast.

LED light I recommend Mag AA or Fenix EO, Fenix Civictor, Fenix E1. If you want big then check out ledbeam.com

Good luck,
rob
