I am curious to find out what everyone thinks about the prospect of single-cell lights using the 123 battery and Cree XR-E emitter being brighter than the P1d CE. Is it possible that using different (or differently tuned) regulation electonics will make subsequent lights even brighter and have a longer runtime than the P1d CE?

I am not sure how much brighter you can make a 1x123 light running off of a XR-E. It seems like flashlights are going to become limited by the battery itself quicker than they would from the LED and electronics.

A CR123A Powered light with Cree P4 Bin with drive current of 300 mA would give around 60 Lumens at the business end (around 75 Lumens at LED) and with a runtime of 3 hours of flat regulation. considering Vf = 3.2 and Battery Capacity of 1500 mAH, efficiency of circuit around 83% (normally for good Concerters, it's of the order of 90% by the way).

Wish some one like Peak LED solutins could build such a light with a simple twisty operation (on the lines of McKinley)
