signal mirror led

Hi....I have a 98 ford expedition with led signal mirrors. Has anyone ever changed this out. From what I've been reading on the net, you have to replace the whole assembly. You guys are so smart I thought I would at least ask.....thanks.

Change out the entire mirror or just the LEDs?

Anything you did to the mirror would void its D.O.T. compliance. Opens up a whole world of bad possibilites.

Why would doing anything to the mirror void D.O.T. compliance? You just have to have the mirror. Our small delivery truck where I work has had numerous mirrors scraped off and replaced over the last few years. The last one the guys stuck back on looks like it was stolen off a Honda Civic, little bitty square thing. But it's just a mirror, and it meets safety regs.

how about the entire car covered with red LEDs. Then if you break your whole car lights up. and if you turn left, the left side of your car blinks.
