This seems like the song that you can't get out of your head.

I upgraded from 25GB to 35GB/month of bandwidth but that's still not enough. CPF has exceded 35GB for the month of October.

I'm sitting on a possible gold mine here. For the short term. I need to survive the months of October, November and December. Then I think the income from my job can not only pay my bills but the upkeep of CPF also.

A gracious CPF member and design engineer of a prestegious flashlight manufacturer has given a very, very generous donation. Members have given to the 'Craig fund' and are now facing Christmas bills. I think you've been bleed dry. Is there anything left?

What I have are SF G2's in black. Nothing special. LOL. Except there's a "Candle Power Forums" in the 'pill' silkscreened onto the head. Plus "CPF 50 Special" underneath. I'm thinking of selling these. But trying to get a tax ID and business license isn't working for me. (long, divorce related story.) So I'm thinking of giving these lights to those who donate $50 or more to the 'CPF Fund". There are 45 available.

What do you think?

) but my question is this: How much over? I mean it's almost the end of the month so if we just bearly went over at the end of the month...but then again maybe we went way over days ago and you just bearly got around to posting.

Re: We are over bandwidth allotment again...

If I pay the extra shipping cost and you don't mind international orders, I'd be happy to take one.

How can we solve this problem in the long term ???

We seem to be a victim of our own success, as our number of members goes up so will the bandwidth usage, we can't expect David to foot these growing bills.

What about some type of (small
smile.gif
) annual membership fee, I for one would be happy to help with the upkeep of this great place and I should think that divided by 2600+ members the expense wouldn't be that high.

Any other suggestions ?

I suggest you talk to some of the manufacturers and dealers that make tons of money from the services of CPF. ARC, SureFire, TadGear, 1SKS, BrightGuy, etc. I believe they all post here and if it wasn't for this vehicle, many of their existing client-base and sales would be next to nothing.

Give it a try. All they can do is say no.

Just a thought, but Paypal has a monthly subscription option. Small voluntary subscriptions of say $2 a month from the active members should add up. I know not everyone likes and uses Paypal, but for those who do it could help.

CPF should get a donation from Paypal, just think of the number of transactions they get due to us

Wish they were G2Z's, as I already have 3 G2's. But I'ld be in favor of a monthly or annual dues fee. TX

Re: We are over bandwidth allotment again...

Some bulletin boards on the 'net have one or two boards that are "Public" and the rest are "pay only"

also: Can we shorten the length of each page? When I check up on the Craig links, I RELOAD the whole page.

Bandwidth. Ugh.

If each page were half as big, the bandwidth would shrink.

Now seriously (keep in mind I'm still a "newbie" and I am humbled by those "senior" to me - "When you can take the rock from my hand..."
wink.gif
) A small fee for "active members" might not be a bad idea. Though agreeing with Saaby, perhaps we are jumping the gun here? How many times has this happened? There have been several hundred newly registered "active members" even since I joined, therefore I can see an increase would take place.

I would submit that a basic "active membership" fee be the last option to implement. I do think a slightly higher "Manufacturer/Dealer Fee" could be considered (again as one of the last resorts). And that could even be in the form of some type of hard goods donation to be sold and/or auctioned? Maybe that would "scare" some manufacturers/dealers away though??

I have to admit, the CPF is one of the best forums I've ever run across and I appreciate the information, deals, and general camaraderie/laughs that are ever present (not to mention the "Pay Per View" events!
wink.gif
)

What about picture consolidation or some sort of "space saving" measure in that area?

I'm confused by the statement, "I'm sitting on a possible gold mine here.". Granted there may be options/possible resources to keep the CPF "fueled", but the term "gold mine" implies "profits" doesn't it?

Re: We are over bandwidth allotment again...

Well let me put a little afterward on my comment:

I thought that we thought that the Apache server would shrink bandwidth--which it did right? Well look at the whole Craig situation...and all of us and our reload every 10 seconds...that HAD to be a bandwidth killer. I'm not saying that I wouldn't pay a small fee, I'm just trying to be optomistic and saying if we can get through this 1 more time we should be done with it...right?
