Which LED lights out there put out more lumens than the L4?
Fenix cree?
Does the Surefire L5 put out much more? Would I notice the difference?
I am looking for a VERY bright light, but not an incandescent.

arty, if you are asking "much more" I would say no. The overall output is nearly in the same range at the lights you mentioned.

You want a VERY bright Led light, take a look to lights with multiple High-Power Led arrangements.

Fenix P1D CE puts out around 111 lumens, which technically is brighter than the L4. The L4 is mostly flood, the P1D CE would have greater throw.

The Fenix uses a Cree which is rated at about 135 Lumens/max.
The L4 and L5 uses a LuxV which is rated in the case of a V-bin 113-147 and a W-bin 147-192 Lumens. Who knows, which bin is used?

All rated Lumens outputs are behind the window/opitic/reflector at optimal driving levels and conditions ( loss due to heat...) so I would say, there is not a significant difference at the end.

Coast LL7730 "V6 P-Chip Stainless"

One wouldn't expect it but it's output is higher than a SF L4 and it has quite some throw too.

I have one, use it with NiMH cells, and it is quite something.
Besides, it's not too expensive, so, should you fry the led, you can simply get a new one. It looks cool but it is not waterproof, so it is not fit for use in the shower :-(

Kind regards,
Joris

Thanks for the suggestions.
Has anyone tried the Nuwai Lux 5s?

Yes, I have a Nuwai ALX352-L.

Today I started to mod it, not bright enough:whistle: Bored out the tube to fit 1x18650 and modified the switch (too easy to activate). Perfect so far. In January I'll swap the Led.:grin2:

What do you mean with very bright? Do you own a Led light?

Like I said, very bright are the multiple Lux/Cree lights.

Best regards

I have a Fenix CE and a SF L4.

The L4:
- has more flood

The Fenix CE:
- definately brighter then the L4
- throw better
- for its size, 5 operational modes, 1 CR123 usage and runtime, LED technology, it cannot be beaten for now

:grin2:

I was just informally using flashlights with a guy with low vision because of retinal problems. He was able to see the L4 - when he could no longer see much weaker lights - like a Fenix L2T on a cr123 tube, or a Fenix L2P, or an Innova X-5, or a Civictor.

Lights that throw well may not work for my needs. I own a Streamlight tasklight 2L and it throws great. I use it to walk the dog.
I don't think that it has the same effect as the L4.

I was especially interested in how the Cree would compare with an L4.
I know that the L2 is a little brighter than the L4, but also read that it sets your hands on fire after it is on high for awhile...
Anyone know about this?

I am sure that the light would do what I want - but my bill would overflow right now.
If I get the raise that I am expecting, then all could change.
