I am pleased with mine. The only 'issue' is that the bezel doesn't screw down all the way (due to the thickness of the 'module' at the base).

Nice and bright - a vast improvement over the standard bulb for the Solitaire.

And a very good deal if you order 5. PLEASE NOTE: I have no affiliation or financial interest in 'the shoppe' - just a happy customer.

I have three and they are a distinct improvement over the stock solitaire. However, I wouldn't buy a incan solitaire to stick one of these in. If you have some old ones laying around, it is a worthwhile endeavor. That was the case with mine. Otherwise, there are better options.

I don't quite agree here.

Are there better 1 AAA lights? Sure. But the Soli is $5 new. If you think the LED is worthwhile, its hard to pass up a $5 host. I love these, even though they aren't quite what they were initially advertised to be, simply because my young daughters can have a pocketable light in their favorite color (yellow and pink here) with decent output from a single AAA.

I use one in a 1 AA MiniMiniMag, and its pretty nice in there as well.

The Soli is about the smallest thing that runs with 1AAA. I have a Nuwai that uses 1AAA, it is much cheaper but it is a bit larger than the Soli.

Whatever cranks your tractor.

But by the time you spend 20 bucks on the two of them, the light and the mod, there are several Fenix lights that are clearly superior to the modded Solitaire IMO for about the same price or a few dollars more. I like the upgrade, but only to resurrect lights sitting in a drawer.

smjled2 is a different product with soli drop in from arc mania, right ?
Which one is better ? cheaper ? Is it worth to buy or better buy AAA fenix light ?
Thanks

The smjled is the one that I am familiar with. Good mod, but if you don't already have the Solitaire to put it in, I would go with the Fenix E1. $23.99 before cpf 5% discount and free shipping. New solitaire and mod will run $18-20. $3-5 more and you get a much more capable light. Just my 2 cents.

I was underwhelmed by the upgrade. Indeed it's brighter than the original incandescent bulb, but still not very bright. I got one from lighthound, who seems to ship a simple "fauxton" keychain light with every order: the fauxton (worth $1 or so) was actually brighter ... :(. After a couple of weeks, the upgrade started to flicker, then stopped working completely. Now the drop-in module just gets a little hot instead of putting out some light. I probably killed it by playing with some powerful magnets near the flashlight.

It is my opinion too that it's probably better to get a complete light (I'm now a happy owner of a civictor) instead of getting a new solitaire and equiping it with this drop-in.

I have a Solitaire with the SMJLED drop in, I am satisfied with it. I use it as an EDC pocket light. It turns the feeble Solitaire into something useful. The issue of the bezel not screwing down all the way does not bother me. I have seen links about cutting down the base of the reflector to allow the bezel to close all the way, I have not tried that.

I do agree, though, that if you had to buy a Solitaire plus the drop in, it would be better to spend the money on a Fenix E0 or E1.

I had one before letting out the magic smoke with too much voltage.

I even had a brand new Soli for it. But I find/found head wobble to be severe, and can never get a repeatable beam twice.

Yes it is better by quite a bit than the stock bulb, but if you have Target nearby go get a River Rock 2AAA. It is FAR superior to a modded Soli, and only 10 bucks!

I sprung for one of these and dropping it in made my day. Back in the day, the Solitaire was THE pocket light. People would hijack the clips from unescorted pens so they could clip their little Solitaire to their pocket for all to see. Lights have changed a lot since then but to me a Solitaire is still what a (shirt) pocket light is supposed to look like. Have I dated myself well enought yet? :shakehead

I dig mine, no it's not as good as my ARC's or peak's but as was stated if you have a soli laying around(esp older "legged" reflector version's) 10-12 bucks ain't too bad for a good KC light. plus i do have a soft spot for soli's, and also like the reversed direction of the head when turning it on.VDG

Bought the five pack, upgraded some of my lights and gave some Soli's w/SMJLED away for Christmas.

Way better than the stock bulb, and brought smiles to the ones who got them for Christmas gifts.

Overall I am pleased for the $6 each I paid for them.

Thanks to everyone who replied.........
