Liquid electric tape.

So I was replacing the led out of one of the LE's and the solder points had a purple coating on them. Was this some sort of liquid electric tape. If so is this the same liquid tape that can be bought at say home depot.

I don't know what that purple coating is, but I've used nail polish to isolate contacts before. Pink nail polish is what hardcore modders use, BTW.

Back when I worked in a radio shop (General Aviation Electronics or GENAVE) we used pink or red nail polish to mark the pots and caps as a tamper ID. Amazing how many people will tweak a broken radio that has "not been touched".

We used an odd garish hue that most customer's wives wouldn't have.That way they couldn't cover their tracks.

So nail polish is resistant to heat. Liquid electric tape is only resistant to 260 or so degrees.

There's also Red GLPT insulating varnish, which looks (and smells) very much like nail polish.

When I was a electronics tech in the '80s, this stuff was used by a lot of the equipment manufacturers not only to insulate electrical connections, but also for brushing on screw heads and threads as a lightweight alternative to Loc-Tite.
