Maglite Luxeon K2 Replacement

I had one, it was pretty good. Didn't care for the fact that it drops to 50% output pretty quickly though. And like the whole "numbers game", the performance numbers they show are probably inflated--look at it as the marketing spin. There's a review of it here:

I recently bought the Terralux version which everyone has been talking more about. There's good and bad about that one too, but generally everyone likes it so far and it does maintain a hight output steadier beam. You can get one of those here:

They should make a Cree maglite drop-in.

Meanwhile, here's a thought: Why not take something like a Terralux Maxstar 3 or other 3-watt Maglite drop-in and desolder the Luxeon, solder a Cree XR-E in its place?

This works. Don't forget the thermal epoxy. You'll get lots of ringly flood and it won't focus to the same hot spot you get with a Luxeon. But it throws lots of lumens.
