I am making a project and need stainless steel cable that is very thin with a 480 lb test and coated by black plastic, it has to be very flexible. I am having a very tough time finding it at my local home depo, hardware store etc. If anyone could point me in the correct direction in terms of suppliers i would really appreciate it.

Hello specialist,

I know a bit about stainless steel wire rope, as my employer sells it

However, for black coated, the available supply is reduced quite a bit. There is a company in So. CA who coats their own wire rope, in house and they likely have what you want on the shelf. Your 480 test sounds exactly like 1/16 7X7 stainless steel. Go to the Versales website and look at Cable & Wire Rope and then select small cord. The 7x7 is the typical wire lay and configuration for 1/16" flexible wire rope. They may have something more exotic if you really need it.

Try an industrial Rigging and supply company. Not sure what they are listed under in the book but I buy a lot of it coated for its black appearance to hang speakers and other A/V products.
