What would a cree mod do to a surefire L2?

The L2 has the orange peel reflector (hopefully the beam would still be good) and I imagine that on high the LED is driven pretty hard. Anybody have a guess as to the lumens it might put out?

I imagine the runtimes would go up quite a bit.

L2 has a Lux V, which is typically driven in excess of 6 volts. I'm not sure the circuit is designed to properly drive the lower voltage emitters. Wouldn't a Cree pretty much fry instantly?
