Hello all,

I'm new so please don't bash.

I have a streamlight Stinger HP (the bug head) and it had a Terralux module that no longer works.

I have some Cree XRE's and was thinking of trying to make a light from these parts.

Could I direct drive a CREE XRE from the 3.6v Ni-Cad stick or do I have to use a converter or resistor?

I don't much care about reflectors and what not I will work that out later. Just interested in any help in the DD or not.

Thanks,
Bill

Hi Bill,

I upgraded a few lights with Cree, and one of them is directly driven from a 3.6 RCR-123 battery. It's been working fine.

Your best bet is to go ahead and do the mod, then measure the current. If you are uncomfortable with this current, then add a resistor.

You may find a resistor sitting inside the Terralux module. My TLE-DB3 has a .47 ohm resistor inside the PR-2 base.
