Here is the case, my friends sister lives in paris and when she comes out to visit him here in LI NY her phone works fine, but the phone "s" of family members that reside in the US do not work if the go to paris. Why is this,,Its the same thing with one of my firends workers, he is from poland his phone that he had in poland works here, But if someone from US went to poland the phone does not work....This could not be some kind of security measures provided by the goverment,,,could it

In Europe the mobile phones use different frequencies as in the US (900MHz and 1899MHz in Europe vs 850MHz and 1900MHz in the US)
To be able to use your phone on both continents you need a dual- tri- or quadband phone. ;)

Depends on what type of phone they use.. Needs to be some kind of World Phone in order to be used internationally due to different frequencies being used. It might also depend upon if you have International Roaming on your calling plan as it costs the carrier $$$$ from roaming charges on the other carriers.
