I had posted a question in the C9000 thread about the center two slots being warmer than the outer two. The outer slots contained discharged cells and the center two didn't. CPF'r MoldyOldy responded that discharged cells get warmer while charging than half depleted cells do.
I took two 2.3Ah Duracells and discharged one and allowed it to cool. The other cell checked 20/40% on a ZTS. I used a BC-900 charging at 1A for this test.
The graph below shows that this is true. Slot #1 is the fully discharged cell. Slot #1 charged for 2:29 for 2.18Ah and Slot #2 for 2:12 for 2.07Ah. You'd think the opposite would happen! Wrong!!
