I was playing around with the two Cree-XR-Es and managed to crack what I thought was the glass lens (from excessive heat). It turns out it was not the glass lens as two days later, the lens fell off in my hands in one piece. Under it, covering the LED die was some clear filler material. (consistency of jelly with too little water). It seems the glass was held on with this stuff.
