You usually change batteries in the field, when it's dark.

How's about a small secondary battery, giving little illumination, to help in battery changing?

Then of course, you could just carry an extra keychain type light.

How do you change your batteries in the dark ?

Hints & Tips ?

I generally just use my Photon light that is on my keychain when I need to change batteries, or need a secondary light for some reason. A coin cell light built into the tailcap of a flashlight would be an interesting solution to that problem though. It could be switched on automatically "refrigerator style" whenever the cap is removed, along with a secondary switch to turn it completely off if so desired, such as for long-term storage.

I have a tritium keychain (turned down and polished to a smaller fob) on the lanyard of one of my lights that puts out enough light to change a battery. Just barely, but it's doable and definitely easier than by feel alone.

I would imagine that the worst problem is dropping a new battery in the dark...

It would also be dangerous to mix up new/used RCR123's in multi-battery torch

The one time I had to change a battery in the field (my Argo HP had been accidentally activated on the drive to the campground :ohgeez: ), I just used another light to see the battery change.

You DO have another light on you, right?
