Is there any information out there regarding the core chip/engine used in the cree xlamp line .. apparently the older 'XBright' (XB9000?) has been replaced with the newer 'EZBright1000' core used in the XRE.
Just doing some googling and it looks like the history of white LED development is ugly. Lots of patents and suits. Many people were involved in the development of white LEDs.
I need to satisfy my geek curiosity - are there any pictures or diagrams of the xbright core? Things like the geometry of the pn junction, what techniques are being used to help the created light escape the die. Apparently Cree has been very tight lipped about things.
