My son had one of those the other day. He came running in to me... "Mom!! this egg has two embryos!"... Kids!.. they are so technical these days...

I remember we used to be able to buy them "double yolker" eggs, they cost about twice the price of premium free-range 'single' yolkers mind you!

A two yolk egg (obviously) needs a slightly larger egg, though they can occur in a large egg. The large (as opposed to extra large or Jumbo) egg has become the standard on Grocery store shelves. Thus you see fewer of the doubles. If you raise your own and keep the hens a couple seasons you are more likely to see larger eggs and more doubles. They are almost common in my house.
