Since someone always ask about it, here's another way to take it apart.

Looking from the top, find the two slits

Obtain a cheap set of tweezers and rest the legs onto the metal piece in the slits. Hold the light straight by putting the base in the head. Hold the tweezer as straight and centered as possible.

Gently whack the top of the tweezer. You only need to drive the tweezer about a centimeter, so start soft and gradually increase force. The module will punch out and fall.

To reassemble, drop the module into the light and use a dowel to hold against it. There are two flat sides on the two pieces. Align the two up and push the top piece into place by pushing it along the edge while holding the bottom piece in place with a dowel.

Remember to follow the advise label the Manufacturer placed on the mallet.

Give it a gentle whack with a small plastic hammer

Give what? a gentle whack? Tweezers? Not sure what you mean. And why would you want to drive the LED inwards? Shouldn't it come out outwards?

Yes, the top of the tweezers. The bottom piece holds the LED and top piece keeps the bottom piece from falling out on its own when there are no batteries. There's a much easier way and that's just push on a countertop with the head until the two halves come apart with the batteries removed, but you might damage the LED this way.

Picture a hole in a plate and two halves of spindles assembled together with the plate in middle. The flanges on either ends prevents it from coming out, but if you force the two halves apart, then you can remove them.

Is there a way to maintain the focusability of these lights when modding to a Cree?

Pictures of the remains?

Don't tease with the method. Show us the gory bits. :lolsign:

I'm out on the road without tweezers, MagLed or Hammer.
