Hello, I'm looking to build/mod a flashlight for keychain use. I've been lurking here for a while trying to absorb every last thing I can about the new Cree, and I think I'm ready to try my first mod!:grin2: I'm a little confused about powering the light, though. These are the specifications I'm thinking about using:

Body: Arc-AAA/Fenix E0 size. The smaller the better.
Power: 1x10440 li-ion 3.7 volt.
Emitter: Cree XR-E P4.

What is a good way to drive this light? I could direct drive (yielding what current?), direct drive with a resistor or two, or possibly utilize the stock driver.

How can I keep the unprotected 10440's from overdischarging? Are there tiny low voltage cutouts I can install?

At what current level is thermal management going to be a serious concern? Light wil most likely be used for only 5-10 minutes at a time.
