for AAA lights i like to use those cheap soft rubber grippy things on pens you get 4 for a dollar. For AA lights and up I don't like mouth carry.

Electrical tape is pretty good. Heat shrink is a little better. As for best maybe those rubber teeth guards for sports. Time to go wrap up my 4D mag. with stock krypton bulb hahaha.

For starters, what kind of light do you use?

There are gizmos from Nite-Ize that are made for AA MiniMags just for that ("lite bite"?). Comes with a neck lanyard and a wide bite wing surface.

Other sizes of lights require other approaches.

Yeah I used to have one of those "bite-a-lite" things for a Mini-mag. It was brilliant except it wouldn't fit in my holster with it on.

I want something for a Fenix L1T (single AA) and the same head with a CR123 tube.
