I've got one modded with a SSC-P4. It works fine on 14500, but low and high are now pretty close to each other.

I tried mine on a 14500 when I first got the light. I don't think there was much difference in output. I'll try it again later today to recheck...
Mine works fine on 14500, brighter than an alkaline, I had to change the tail resistor to get a nice low. Look here https://www.candlepowerforums.com/threads/139548 states .8 - 4 Volts.

I just tried mine again on a 14500. I can't tell any difference on high versus the alkaline...however, that was in a somewhat dark garage. Maybe I need to try later tonight, when the garage is really dark. Like previously mentioned, you'll have to change the resistor to get the low level back. With the 14500, both high and low modes are pretty much equal brightness.
