In "The Hunt for Red October" they used replicas about third the size of real 941. These are real.

amazing, never quite imagined how large subs are. I esp like the pic of the one surrounded by ice(?), looks like the SR71 blackbird almost!

100% Ti Hull, "Lira" class, NATO "Alfa" class

This sub is designed to outrun torpedos. It is the second fastest sub ever made(to "Papa" class with 47knot underwater speed).

I thought that the Russians built all (most?) of their subs with Ti. And in order to weld it they have ot work in an all nitrogen atmosphere and wear basically a space suit (sans pressure suit of course)

So, can I pick up one of those cheap now? That would be fun to have. Tear out the missle tubes and there would be a lot of space in there! Might have trouble getting more fuel for the reactor though, or perhaps I can just buy that from N. Korea...

No, actually there were only few classes build with titanium hull. It was too expensive to use on SSBNs, it was used on FEW! SSNs.

Barrkuda class(NATO Sierra) 4 made
Lira class(NATO Alfa) 7 made
Anchar class(NATO Papa) 1 made
Plavnik class(NATO Mike) 1 made

These 805s where designed to go in to a city's harbor undetected, and deliver a nuclear device(say a bomb underwater beside Statue of Liberty):

All 113.

This is "Kursk" after it was raised from the seabed last summer. A ghost ship.
