Need Help from Singapore members

My girlfriend's father has just been diagnosed with liver cancer and they plan to go to Singapore for treatment. Since they don't know how long they may be there, they are looking for somewhere to stay in case it has to be for quite a while. Obviously, a hotel is out of the question because of cost concerns.

Does anyone know where they can rent a place for a reasonable price? The hospital is Mount Elizabeth Hospital so it would be preferable if it is near there.

Any and all suggestions are appreciated.

well, there are some budget hotels but they are all located further away from the orchard road area (where the hospital is). but the good news is that the public transport system in singapore is pretty good and thus, travelling from the hotel to the hospital should not be a problem. the bad news is that some of the budget hotels are located in areas which are not so desirable (red light areas).

as for renting of a place, i am not sure if the home owners are willing to rent out for short periods of time.
