Greetings!

For several years now, I've had a dream light... which so far it seems nobody is making. So far, the Surefire Kroma is the closest to realizing the dream, but even it comes up a bit short in some areas.

Specs of my dream light:

2-Stage White LED (50 or more Lumens on high, around 2 Lumens on low)
1-Stage Red LED (around 2 Lumens)
Must run on AA or 123 Batteries
Must be waterproof or VERY water resistant

Yep... that's it. Just a bright/dim white LED light with a low Red LED option. Many companies have come close, but still no cigar:

The Contenders
============

Surefire A2 Red - No low-mode on the white, incandescent instead of LED
Surefire Kroma - Has all features, but lots I don't need (blue, high/low red, large bezel, etc.)
Coast Red/White - Uses AAA batteries, no 2-stage white, cheap, bad O-rings
Streamlight Night Com - Incandescent, no 2-stage white
AVShop IlluminAviator Xenon - Incandescent, no 2-stage white
AVShop IlluminAviator All LED - Uses AAA batteries, no 2-stage white
LRI Photon Proton - This could be my dream light, but I've heard bad things about quality

OK... so there is the lineup so far, I'm seriously considering buying the Proton to give it a try, but I've heard bad things about it's overall quality. I've heard that it's threading is too small and easily cross-threads, and that the build quality of the light is not very good for a $60+ light. Any input from Proton users would be helpful.

Any other thoughts on options I haven't considered yet?

Best wishes,
Bawko

Yup, the Proton had potential Dreamlight written all over it ..... it's a great pity the potential was never realised !!

Hopefully there will be a Proton 2 based on a Cree and with better quality control .....
