I didn't have the slightest idea what you were talking about and without any pics it was kinda hard to imagine what you had built. So try and post some pics please and maybe lots would be interested. :)

I think Mike is used to faster-paced forums like slickdeals where a thread can be knocked off the first page in a matter of minutes, and took the lack of fast replies here as disinterest. I hope you change your mind :)

What is that?

Direct drive 100+ mW laser from a DVD-RW drive?

Anyone try to transplant a diode from a quality keychain style pointer? Granted you would need a better battery solution than LR44's but those Li Ions used in Orb Raw's would probably work. 200+ mW at 650 nM anyone? Get a decent multi element collimator on there - it will enlarge the beam and make it circular. The penalty is about 20-50 mW but the divergence will be well under 1/2 mrad and it will go on forever. The collimators are about 10 mm long.
