Good Post !

I well remember (12 years ago) my fancy new (!)

Sony Walkman radio/cassette player WM-FX52.

LOVED the fact that i could program my favorite stations,

and jump to them in a flash.

But imagine my amazement when the pair of AA alkalines

needed to be replaced Every Week, even if it had not been USED !

This fact should certainly be brought into the open !

My MXDL 3watt (damaged) consumes powere when off. I went into my store room and turned off all the lights and I knowtise a very very faint glow. Removed the battery pack and the glow vanished...

any light that uses a switch mechansim that does not unlatch the battery from the circuit completely, sure its off but some batteries are still plugged into the circuit, but SF lights and other lights with a tail cap clicky that is simply that a clicky, no programming should not drain power, so that helps if your looking out for specific lights.

Ask yourself at what rate the battery self-discharges, then compare to the current drawn by the light.
The standby current may not be an issue at all.
