I've noticed that several people, including myself, have had trouble with this.
The symptoms are binding, gritty feel and an overtight fit. In some cases the light doesn't work.
It has been reported, and I have found, that the switch assembly unscrews at the slightest provocation - even when tightened with a plastic stylus.
After using a pair of fine pliers, all is now well, and the 14500's fit and work well (although the normal modes don't kick in until after considerable use).
