To a cynic like me, the proof is in the puddin' and right now, Cree is the only product actually making it into mainstream flashlight manufacturing (so long as you consider Fenix as mainstream). The Seoul units might be coming close in the next few months...

I don't think 38% efficiency blue LEDs are anything new, I believe that's about the same as, or maybe a very marginal imporvement over the blue LED developed by Cree used in the XR-E, and SSC emitters.
