Hey all. I have been working with LED's for housing and automotive projects but the LED's I've been purchasing have been from E-Bay. I don't know if I can trust the quality of these LEDs, because I will be selling these products to other people. I was recommended Lumileds, but I can't seem to find 5mm or 3mm LED's on their web page. I would perfer to use only the best, so if know any online, reliable and preferably cheap sources for dependable LED's please share them with me. Thank you!

You can get Nichia CS in lots of 100 directly from Nichia
http://store.nichia.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=138
You can get smaller quantities at the shoppe

These are the LEDs used in the Fenix E0, Arc AAA-P and most flashlights sold with the 2X BRIGHTER sticker. Arc charges $10 more for a flashlight with this LED than for one with a different LED.

They are probanly the most rugged 20mA 5mm LEDs out now. Most 5mm LEDs deterioate quite rapidly when overdriven (30mA, 40mA). The CS survived an extended rin at 60mA.

They are also among the brightest single-die 5mm LEDs around. Only the 4 die (read 4X the cost) are brighter.

When someone says Lumileds are more rugged I do not think they mean Lumiled's 5mm LEDs. They probably mean the LuxIII (rated at 700mA) or K2 (1000mA) stars.

Thanks for the links. That seems pricey at $85 for 100 5mm LED's. I've been buying my LED's from this place (link below), 100 5mm "55000mcd" LEDs for about $40. I don't know how accurate those claims are, or how durable the LED's are, but it's half the price of the other ones. Any comments or suggestions? Also, light output wise, would it be more efficient to use more of these or less of the high power LEDs? Thanks for the help!

Contact jtr1962 (the guy who made the measurements in the last link). He might be willing to analyse your leds if you send him some. Then you will be able to compare once he posted the results.
