Are there goodies inside a broken DVD burner?

Hi all!

I just replaced my Nec 3520 dvd burner for a Samsung SH-S182M, and am very pleased with the performance, before I throw out my old Nec, I would like to know if there are electronic components worth saving for later, like the laser for instance.

Thanks!

LOL! nevermind!, I just ripped it open and found out. The laser is very tiny and not worth it, I got a good collection of screws all sizes, springs, and stainless rods that could be useful for other mods not necesarily flashlight related.

i open it up, mess around with it and take out things from it...

which i then place in a box of things which i collect.

then throw the left over into the bin :)

it is fun taking things apart...

camera, phones, clocks...

I wonder if there are any toxic coatings on some of those parts and shouldn't be touched. I do the same thing and like to take things apart, but it might not be safe. But to live life you have to take risks, right?

I doubt it, greenlight.. I mean, the guys in the laser forum regularly rip burners apart for the lasers inside, and they'd have probably noticed something by now..
