How much beam variation between Cree LEDs?

I have the fenix L1D-CE, L2D-CE and P2D (CE) and they share an identical head with the Cree LED. I've noticed that the P2D beam is MUCH nicer, with a much less pronounced "raccoon eye" pattern. The great thing with the Fenix heads is that the head bezel can be turned to "defocus" the beam and reduce the dark ring in the beam, but no amount of adjusting of the L1D and L2D heads can get the beam as ring free as the P2D.

So my questions: is there much in the way of beam variation between supposedly identical Cree LEDs? Or have fenix slightly modified the reflector on the P2D to give it the much nicer beam.

All three are great torches regardless!
