Do you guys dream about your lights too, or am I nuts?

Anybody ever had dreams about/including flashlights?

Had one recently about a guy with a hellbent for strange led flashlight.

Dunno why I dreamed about it, but the light was a triangular RGB thingie that appeared to have about 200 lumens per bulb. It was built so that when all the lights were on, the patterns perfectly overlapped into white, and you could adjust the hotspot for infinite colors.

In my dream, the guy who owned it was showing me the functions, and I was trying to find out where to get one.

Another, different dream, and there was one of those skeleton spider thingies from Aliens trying to get in my house and after my kids, and I was outside with a 3D maglight in each hand trying to catch it and bash it. The dream ended when it had gotten inside the house and was running around the living room with a doll clutched in its arms. It ended because my wife woke me up. She said I was swinging wildly into the air, trying to bash something. No more hot sauce for me before I go to bed!

September 02, 2002:
I was in a large public market not unlike the Pike Place Market here in Seattle. I had to go to the bathroom, so I started looking for a toliet. Below the street level, I found a public restroom with two toliets. A tall drag queen in a gold lame' dress was just starting to leave one stall, and the other was already empty. So I went right to the empty stall, but found somebody had pissed all over the toliet seat and all over most of the toliet paper. The drag queen's stall was now being used by someone else, so I was stuck with this one. Using what little unpissed-on paper there was, I cleaned off the seat and then sat down. Affixed to an empty TP dispenser rod to my left was my pair of Arc-LS flashlights on a keyring. I realised I had left them there the previous day, and I saw evidence that a lot of people had tried to remove them but failed. There were deep grooves cut into the metal TP rod from somebody pulling back and forth on the keychain, apparently hoping to erode through the rod enough to break it. The toliet paper rod was locked into the holder with a small, stiff button at one end, which I firmly pressed and easily freed my flashlights. Still seated on the toliet, I briefly examined them and then stuffed them into my pocket. After sitting on the can for several more minutes and deciding I couldn't "go", I pulled up my pants and exited the stall. At this time I noticed a couple of younger guys in the bathroom. We exchanged a brief conversation, but I can't remember what it was about anymore. It wasn't anything bad, I'm pretty sure of that.

From 09-07-02, comes this snippet:

In the last part of the dream, I was inside part of a new building construction. I heard some people "ooing" an "aaahing" at something going on in the next room of the unfinished structure. I looked through the still-unhung door, and saw a white laser dot being shined at the unfinished plywood ceiling about two or three floors up. It was coming from some guys about 1 floor below me standing in front of what I took to be an argon ion laser, even though I knew it was the wrong color. I noticed at times the white laser spot had crimson red edges, as if developing a chromatic abberation. But for the most part, the beam was white. So I pulled out my own green-emitting laser pen, and started chasing the white spot on the ceiling with it. The NWCN crew from the last dream segment showed up again and stood there watching as well. Somebody mentioned what a beautiful shade of green my laser was. I said something to the guys below, "What kind of laser is that, a urine laser?" and they started laughing while repeating the phrase "urine laser" a couple of more times. I said "No, not a urine laser, a dye laser". There was some more laughing from the other laser's owners, while both of our lasers' beams continued to play tag on the ceiling. Right after that, I woke up.

It was a few months ago when I dreamed about a Longbow olive drab flashlight. I've never seen one other than online but I still held it in my hand in the dream.

Last night I dreamed about someone I didn't know(a workman) having an Ultrastinger. I picked it up to play with in and when shining it on the wall, I noticed that there were about four other hotspots on the same wall dancing about like mine yet, no one else was doing what i was doing. Anyhow, the bezel fell off and I tried to screw it back on only to realize that it couldn't fit. :thinking: the dream ended.

I had a dream recently after taking a light afternoon nap..

The dream started with me on a spaceship of some kind, in what seemed to be a room with clear walls, and aliens, undoubtedly the grey type, milling around but not really focusing on me or anything. Two of them began speaking to me telepathically, asking me about my life and day to day activities. I mentioned that I enjoyed playing with flashlights at night and then took from my inside jacket pocket my Fenix L2P and shined it on the ground. One of them, upon seeing it, gave the telepathic sensation of a smirk, and seemingly produced from out of thin air a gold-looking cylinder with a small silvered hole at one end, not very big, smaller than my L2P in fact but a bit wider. In this clear room, he activated the device and it emitted what appeared to be a white laser'ish beam then pointed it at the earth, and we were facing the dark unlit side of it. The light appeared to illuminate most of Texas and some of the right side of New Mexico, the window was weird as the beam appeared to have a 100% transmission rate through the 'glass', I was trying to look for a reflection but coud find none. I was, of course, absolutely stunned. I woke up shortly after, with the telltale spot of drool on my pillow.

I just had one a few nights ago.

I was in London inspecting my apartment i had rented out before and the tenant had vacated. I found large holes in a plaster board wall in the living room like someone had punched it with their fist or a mallet. When I took out my EDC to check down the hole to see whats in it or where it led to, out came cats! There were many of them of all sorts and i had to push them back into the hole (cos i didnt want cats in my apartment). It was becoming like a Nintendo game to see how many cats i could push in before they came out. I got mad after a while and i was going to hit them with my flashlight to stop them from coming back up again when i remembered my pepperspray. Aha! I'm gonna get "high score" for this. I was about to squirt them when i woke up.

Oh yeah, I couldnt remember which light it was. All i know is that it was a 2-cell SF unit (maybe a 6P, E2E or E2L, etc)

I had a dream with my mom trying to light a carbide miners lamp using the "flesh torch" method (somehow lighting her hand on fire before getting it lit)

I then remember walking around in the woods with an X990.

I had a dream that I didn't vist CPF for a few years, and when I came back it was way different. There was porn, and lots of pointless threads like why CPF is better than FF. I couldn't figure out what had happened.

I had some CPF dreams as well. Most involve me trying to respond to a thread by typing as fast as I could right before I wake up

For some reason in all my dreams that involve flashlights, the the lights never work well. In one dream I was running from a dog in a dark alley and my strion looked like it was putting out about 2 lumens. In an another dream my 3D maglite looked like it wasn't even putting out light at all.

Actually, that sounds about right. :nana:

There's probably some psychology going on here... Like, you feel you have lost control over your situation, or something. In fact, that may be part of flashaholism in the first place (a situation you can control (like darkness)).

Surprisingly, I've never had a flashlight dream. <- Come to think of it, that is really quite odd... Also suprisingly, my wife, who is not interested in them at all, has dreamt of flashlights. :hahaha:

Okay, i really had the most pointless dream ever. I dreamt I woke up, saw my Fenix L1P on the table next to my laptop, wondered why it was there, and fell asleep. When I really woke up, it was in my pocket. Now I'm confused.

In the majority of my dreams that involve flashlights, the flashlights do not function properly. They rarely work the way I want them to. And I agree a lot of it has to do with the feelings of losing control. But a friend of mine, who's recently read some dream guide, told me that the brain actually has a hard time with processing mechanical logic in dreams. He read that one way you can test if you are having a dream, in case you aren't sure, is to try turning on a light switch in the dream. If you flip on a switch and the light doesn't turn on, it's likely a dream. This would happen because the part of the brain that's creating the dream is unlikely to remember to fill in the detail about the light supposed to turn on the instant the switch is flipped. However in my dreams, if a light fails or performs poorly--I just automatically assume it's the batteries, broken filament, or broken circuitry. My backup lights on my belt seldom work in the dreams, also. And that's about the time I realize I'm really having a bad dream and then I usually wake up.

I had the strangest CPFer dream last night! I was delivering, I think, flowers to some huge parking lot that seemed like it was a stadium. Anyway, I was just supposed to leave the flowers right on the space. I don't think I left them, because I figured they'd either get run over or taken (the lot was just beginning to fill up in an orderly fashion). Anyway, I don't know who it was, but I started showing some CPFers from England my new digital camera (what new digital camera?). They were needing one, perhaps because theirs was lost, and I was suggesting they buy mine. Well, I guess I really wanted them to push them in the direction of getting one like mine, because I then offered to lend it to them! It was a female and a male, BTW. Husband and wife, I think. Well, the guys gets all excited and says, "You'll really lend it to us?", and I said yes. I'm thinking they can just give it back in a few days, just long enough to check it out, and short enough that I won't miss it too much. Then he tells me "great!", and mentions they'll be heading to the other side of the U.S., somewhere in the south, I think. I like, "well, you can just mail it to me from there....". Anyway, I did actually lend them my camera, thinking, well, they are CPFers, so it should be ok (despite having never met them before). Then, I'm back in my room, playing with my "old" digital camera (which might be the Pentax Optio S4 that I have now). It's on "dim" mode, which actually makes the pictures look dimmer (it's a dream, I don't know what dim mode is....something like a dark filter), and I snap a picture of some black guy with a long beard who looks something like a cross between ZZ top, a Swami, and a black leprechaun! I don't know how that guy got in my room, or where he went afterwards, but I remember holding the picture close, trying to see how "dim mode" really made him stand out. I remember thinking something like, "wait a second....maybe dim mod isn't the right setting to make a black guy stand out in the photo, and then after bringing it closer to my eyes (where I just see the photo close up), I do kind of notice that it "sort of" gave a higher level of contrast to the guy, but I wasn't sure, I thought it was hard to tell still. I was noticing in the close up of the photo that the guy's skin looked redish brown, like the photo was taken in a dark room with one of those red lights on.


Weird....

The fact you can voluntarily wake up when you realise a dream is bad tells me that you have at least some ability to perform what is known as "directed dreaming". I'm not a psychologist and I don't play one on TV or on the internet, but I do have some knowledge about the human noggin.
Count yourself lucky; when I have a bad dream, I have to suffer through the entire thing.
