Mets Fan Alleged Tries To Blind Braves

(CBS/AP) NEW YORK A 40-year-old man was arrested at Shea Stadium Friday night after he tried to temporarily blind an Atlanta Braves pitcher and shortstop with a high-powered flashlight, authorities said.

Frank Martinez, 40, was charged with interference with a professional sporting event and second-degree reckless endangerment, Queens District Attorney Richard Brown said Saturday.

The District Attorney said he "endangered the lives of the players and spectators".

But what light was it? The definition of a high powered flashlight between a CPFer and the general public could be quite different.

Renteria complained to umpire Paul Emmel, who then called time out and alerted security. The security officers removed Martinez and found a "a small, streamline flashlight" in his backpack, Brown said.

Dont know that brand...could be a Streamlined Flashlight...:ohgeez:

I suppose we can look forward to some proposed legislative ban now, eh? Yep, gotta' get those dangerous flashlights off the streets & out of the hands of criminals! Next thing you know, the gangs will be having photon wars and it will just get out of hand, so we need to do something now.

More laws will certainly take us in the right direction!! Additionally there seem to be more powerful and affordable lights being imported! I've heard some of them are even more powerful than the ones that our own law enforcement officers carry! I think we need some restrictions implemented immediately!!

WE NEED TO ACT NOW!! :ohgeez:

Okay, use a flashlight and it's illegal. But get 40,000 others to start making noise and it's cool.

I wonder if the lumens out the front of his flashlight was greater than the light from a professional photographers flashbulb. If he were really trying to blind them he'd use a 100% infrared lazer... totaly invisible.

Should he have done it? No...it was stupid. But "Endangering Lives"!?!?! This is what we have become...a society that sensationalizes everything...

And amen carbine15...I guess all the photographers are life threatening as well!

LOL! What did this weapon do? Singe his eyebrows or rapidly dehydrate him? Atempted photon manslaughter, that must be what it was lol!

Would have been easier to go to a daytime game and take a small mirror.

Endangering lives, indeed. The DA's a moron.

On second thought, maybe the DA was right. The whole city could have freaked out because of this terrorist flashlighter, like Boston did over those "viral marketing" LED signs awhile back.
