3w cree drop in from dx

Hi, A quick question about the 3 watt cree drop ins, does anyone think that they can be used at full power without the body of a flashlight, i.e if you wired it up to a 9 volt supply as it was, would it overheat??

9 volt is the upper limit - I would not try running it on a 9 volt AC-DC supply (if that's what you were talking about ) as they often start out 10-15 volts or more and as light as the housing is on this it would probably be good to mount it to something that can sink some of the heat. I believe some have had issues with it in a plastic light like the G2's.
