Would it be brighter than the Nachia?

Would it be possible to build a AA light like the Ultra but use a LS (no lens...looks the same as the Ulta but has the larger LS bulb in there, no paint on the reflector area)?

Would it be a bright, wide, smooth beam with no hot spots? Or would that goal not be achieved.

Also, what about direct driving it with a resistor using a AA Li-Ion which is rated at 3.6 volts? Possibly you could modify an existing CMG Infinity for this application??? I suspect heat would be the issue here though.

Last year I put together a rig with the Arc-AAA circuit, AAA cell and a low dome LS. It did produce more light than the Nichia 5mm. I deamed it unworthy though because the cost was high for the amount of light produced. Also, the beam was so wide the 5mm easily illuminated targets more brightly at 3ft away.

You can duplicate this by popping the colminator of a low dome at running it at 45mA.
