How many volts are safe for a Surefire L1 head?

I recently got a green Surefire L1 head (not to be confused with a KL1 head). I am currently running it on an E1L body with a 3v primary cell and a McE2s tailcap.

Can I run this on one 3.7v rechargeable cell? How about on two 3v primary cells (on an L4 body--total of 6 volts).

Any guidance is appreciated--I don't want to let out any magic smoke. :poof:

Two CR123 primary cells will surely fry the LED and circuit, don't even try it. A single lithium ion is about the most Vin you would want to expose it to.
